Wanted to first say thanks for letting me lurk around here even though I dont even own a bike yet... I thought Id tell you about something that happened this weekend that you might get a kick out of. At Open Road Harley in Fond Du Lac WI on Sat. afternoons they have demo days... I took a cruise down there and signed up for a few bikes... It was a cool experience you hop on a bike and the group of folks take off following a leader back through some nice country roads so you can get a feel for the bike... Im talking about 20 minutes of saddle time, had the opportunity to see what the bike felt like and you were able to open it up a tad bit...
So I started with a 1200 Sporty (btw Im 6 foot 2 290) The sporty was ok, although my fat a$$ bottomed it out a few times haha... Up next was an 09 Fatbob with what they were calling a stage three, I didnt ask exactly what had been done to it but I did notice the V&H shortshots... it was the best sounding bike out of the 10 or so bikes they had to demo. I LOVED THE RIDE!!!! Being as tall as I am I really appreciated the fwd. controls they had, and my a$$ loved the better suspension, and it felt (vibes) and sounded like a harley...
The last bike I tried was an 09 crossbones they had mod. it a bit with a windshield, fwd. controls and a different seat. While I did enjoy how it felt like I was sitting IN the bike more than on the bob, the whole thing was just to smooth... no vibes, no sound, and if anything the susp. worked TO well...
I was just happy to be able to try a few bikes and see the difference, I might go back next week and try the Vrod and baggers they have just to try them all... but you are ALL right... the Dyna stood head and shoulders, in my opinion, above the other two... so I will continue to look\shop in the dyna section haha...

good for you for doin your research and really finding THE bike for you
i would like to know what the dealer ment by a stage 3...normaly that implies MAJOR engine work....if they where just sayin that because it had new pipes, A/C, and jets i would keep demoing there but don't buy from them.
What the hell are you doing???? Don't you know you're supposed to buy on impulse and regret it rather than do the research and get it right the first time? Take your time and get it right, nothing wrong with that.
I rented everything I was interested in before I bought also.... Never rode before (07) and I tried several a couple times and just kept coming back to the Dyna.....

It won't be too long before people attempt to make the new WG's look as good as the 'old' ones..... Motor company is probably counting on picking up X amount of dollars in chrome accessories on every one they sell.
