Hi,
I just bought a used 2005 FXDCI off the Harley showroom floor. The bike already has a high-flow a/c in it, but it came with stock exhaust of course. The sales manager said they had to remove the Power Commander off of it before they could sell it.
He told me since the bike already has the download, that I can put on some aftermarket pipes and I should be all good.
Is this true? I'm gonna buy some Short Shots. Anyway, I'm new to the whole downloading thing since my other 2 Harleys were older Carb models.
Thanks,
Shane-O
I'd ask for the Power Commander back. You won't get it, because it's on a bike one of the employees ride...
As far as I know... If the bike has the stage 1 download, there isn't anything else they can download after you change pipes. If you really want to know/get it right, buy a PC III or V, and get a dyno tune.
If it were mine, I'd bolt the new pipes on and roll...
I hear ya Baeseman. Thanks forthe replies. Ya, I bet my PC is on one of the employee bikes right now. They must think that we think they just throw them in the trash or something. lol
I don't see a location for you. If it's California, I'll believe most anything. If not, let me get this straight. They can take your bike that you own and gladly sell and install a power commander on it for you and charge you for parts and labor and probably offer to dyno-tune it for you as well. But, they can't sell you a bike that already has a power commander on it? I smell BS. You probably won't get the power commander but I'd go back and ask for it, especially if you can install it yourself, and you can. Otherwise, I'd take my business elsewhere and get some kind of tuner and some nice sounding and looking pipes or slipons.
Yup, I live in the Bay Area, California. You cant buy a bike with all the good stuff on it. I went in there with a wish list and they told me I could'nt buy my aftermarket "racing" goodies from them. They referred me to the nearest bike shop in town.
Thats stupid. The salesman told me the same thing. Something i have relized, and Ive bought two new harleys in the last 12 months, is that the salesman is just that a salesman. Most times were I live they are full of @#$%. When i went he was telling me that there is no need for that crap on EFI bikes and I called him out on this due to not only my expirience, but my dads, uncles, and grandpas on our newer bikes. It will run to lean. Harleys run lean out of the factory, so dont take that shortcut and have to replace a motor. Also if your bike has a stage 1 download make sure you tell the people you get your power commander from, because it makes a difference.
my friend worked at some dealerships over the years....any aftermarket dvd/audio or anything like that the dealership allowed the employees to take off of the vehicles and keep them or sell them (so he said)....i would imagine bike shops do the same thing
