Default Putting on pipes, any issues?

So I am finally getting around to putting a new set of pipes on my bike. They are samson big guns and I am wondering if it really is as easy as unbolting the stock ones and bolting on the new. Can anyone who has put pipes on their bike (from the header) give me any tips? Thanks!

Be sure to replace the exhaust gaskets.

Tighten the flange nuts, ride it and check the flange nuts again. Don't over tighten them and squeeze the gasket out into the exhaust port.

All good tips above! It took me about 4 rides followed by torquing to get mine seated. For the initial tightening, torque all four to about half the specified torque requirement, then torque all four to spec. Use a stick of incense to check for leaks.

Keep lots of towels around to keep from putting marks on them. Nothing worse than getting them installed but putting a big scratch down them.

It really is that easy. Get after it and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Use stock replacement gaskets - not the SE ones.

Sorry for the hijack, but does anyone know the torque specs of the head bolts for the '09 Super Glide? (I'm saving up for a service manual, but would sure like these specs at the moment). Thanks.

Here are the torque and sequence for an '07. Should be the same for the '09:

1. Install lower nut and tighten finger tight
2. Install upper nut and tighten to 9-18 in-lbs(1-2 Nm)
3. Tighten lower nut to 60-80 in-lbs (6.8-9.0 Nm)
4. Tighten upper nut to 60-80 in-lbs (6.8-9.0 Nm)

Then after riding a few miles I would double check them again.
