I've done just over 1000 miles on mine and have all these noises and more....
It wouldn't be a Harley if the gearbox didn't clunk, the front end didn't rattle and the brakes didn't make a noise.
Last ride was a '73 XLCH - NOW THAT MADE SOME GREAT NOISES!!!
Jamie WG is spot on - I'm looking forward to the day when the noise of the pipes works in harmony with these other sounds to create the perfect Harley acoustics'.
As for dubblist - there's nothing to be nervous about - if you want something that doesn't make a sound you could get yourself a Vespa.
So it looks to me like you have the old chirp, shhhhhhh, bang, pop clunk trait thaat comes with every Harley-Davidson made.
Now as a matter of fact, thats the ONLY DAMN THING ABOUT A HARLEY THE FRIGGIN JAP BIKE MANUFACTURERS HAVENT BEEN ABLE TO COPY.
There is a god up there somewhere.
7000 miles on mine and have 1,2,3 and 5. And loud pipes. Haven't noticed but one clunk and that was around my 1000 mile service mark. Motor mounts needed tightened.
i have 1, 2, and 5.
i agree though, mostly normal and just need louder pipes. 1 i think for me is my front fender creaking. i think its under stress in normal position so creaks when breaking. so i plan some day on just loosening it all up and letting it sit
to its preffered position before tightening.
I also have a weird feeling from my front end when driving on a coarse surface. not bumpy surface but coarse. and especially when i bank over on a coarse surface. nearly a slight grinding. it feels almost like a dodgy bearing, but when i get the bike on a lift front feels ok. I#m gonna try all over front end alignment, maybe the wheel spindle isn't sitting just right.
i got 5500 miles on mine since feb. now that its loosend up a bit i get alittel of all that. coming back from a 300 mile ride i was useing them foam ear plugs took them out as i was putten up my street scared me for a second i thought my scoot had ran out of oil...lol
Hmmmmmm.... When I twist the right handlebar grip... I get this VERY LOUD SOUND.... in back of me.... Errr.. Crap.... that's just my SE II's ....But..It drowns every sound under me and in front of me...LOL [sm=biker2.gif]
Is number 3 :" When coming to a stop, the front end shudders/vibrates slightly at certain points of speed and rpm (when the front brake is applied and clutch is in it's most noticeable) "
Hmmmmmmmm........wife got a new Bob back in Aug when they were introduced........she got the 1st one out the door of our stealership. We have not noticed ANY of these "noises" or issues.....but then, she's pretty new at riding, and I been on the front seat for 40 years now, so maybe she just doesn't realize, and I'm just used to HD ecentricities? Re #5, if there's a loud clunk going into 1st gear, make sure the recall on the tranny has been completed. After they did hers, the sucker is quiet and smooth! No clunking on this one!
