Sorry to beat this dead *** horse, and I have read pages and pages of threads uning the search function........I want to start my own thread with my own situation.
My bike is a 2005 fxdwgi TC88 and already has the SE Stage 1 kit including dealer download, pipes and air cleaner. Today my new VH Big Radius pipes arrived and there is a big STOP sign on the box that says ....
STOP!!! Fuelpak Required for injected models!!!
Before I go through the hassle of installation, do I really NEED a fuel management system, or will I be OK with only the dealer download.I will probably do something in the future but I would like to just put these sweet *** pipes on this weekend.
Agreeed with Jay! My buddy has a rockerC with BR SE air cleaner and download, and he's ok. His pops more than mine does, likely because the DL is leaner than a fuel manager. Yours will run fine too,but you will feel a boost if you add a fuel-pak or pcV+it 'll run cooler and be more responsive, and cost you minimal extra gas.
Show us the pics of the pipes installed already...
My opinion - don't do the fuelpak if/when you decide to got something. I have one, and I think I'm going to go with the PC-V if I feel the urge to have it tuned in. My bike ran just fine with the download and I got the FP cheap so I threw it on. Didn't really change anything except take up more space under my seat...
If the dealer can find the map for your exhaust all they will do is bring the mix to the EPA requirement. A lot of dealers won't re-cal (down load) with an exhaust they aren't familiar with. Unfortunately even if you could get the download, you may still get some de-cel popping. I installed a DFO that can piggyback into the injectors and it richens up the mix a little or a lot, you can control it. If you are going to do internal engine mods later a PCIII or some like that may be in order. The engine will run leaner if you don't do anything. Leaner= extra heat.

Again, Sorry for another one of these threads
I have a 09 Fat BoB and just put v+h pro pipes on with a fuelpak. It screams and runs perfect.
my buddie has a 05 softail deuce with stage 1 air cleaner double barrel pipes and the stage 1 download only. He has been riding like that for 4 years and he has burned rich to the point of fouling the plugs 2 times. Last saturday, i put a fuelpak on his bike with the fuel map written for his bike/pipes/stage1 download. Wow what a difference! More power, quicker response, runs cooler etc. Those fulepak boys got something right!!!
Not to complicate things....but I have a fuel pack on my wifes FXDF. It was dealer installed on my FXDSE with my Big Radius. I wanted to try something a little better to see if there was a difference. I was also worried about reported high heat conditions on the 110. So I tried the Thundermax Autotune ECM. What a difference!!!!!!!!! Felt like I got 20 more HP. No black carbon in the pipes anymore either. Bronze color on the Big City Thunder Monster Baffles. And I seldom hear a pop from the exhaust.
I put the Fuel Pack on the FXDF with short shots. It runs just like my FXDSE did before the change. Pops and cracks some and not quite as responsive. I haven't tried no fuel management system, but would think your bike would still be set to run very lean and you sure wouldn't be getting the most from your motor. I think you should at least go with the fuel pack. Just my opinion.
