Default bearing replacement

Well...got the bike back today..06 Bob in for the dreaded inner primary issue..and they replaced the bearing and race with an "updated" part number. They said there was no problem with the case alignment or lubrication..and i should be fine. Hope they are right! Showed them the paper i signed regarding the 15k bearing inspection/replacement..and the MoCo picked up the bill..(bike has been out of warranty for a year). Knocking on wood as we speak. At least i had no problem with the dealership..(Signature HD in Perrysburg, Ohio)..they made sure i didn't pay a dime. Wish me luck.

Default '06 Inner Primary Bearing Replaced twice

I have had to replace my inner primary bearing twice. Dealer charged me the $50.00 for the Extended Warranty co-payment. They also replaced the automatic primary chain tensioner with the latest upgraded one. I'm wondering if some '06 Street Bobs came without the alignment dowel pins. Does anyone know?

The '06's do not have the doweled IP and Tranny cases. If the factory (or in your case, the local dealer) gets lucky with case alignment on assembly, you may never have an (or another!) IPB problem. When/if it fails again, push for the upgrade to '07-style IP & Tranny Cases. Search out my thread "Finally Good News..." for everything you need to know about the IPB issue. Good luck with yours.

PKellyMc, Thanks for the information. I may go ahead and push my Local Dealer for the replacement of the Tranny Case and the Inner Primary before it goes out again, since this is twice it has already happened. Probably won't have any luck, but I like pulling their chain, so to speak anyway. lol Again thanks.

Good to hear that they took care of it. I am headed to the dealership this evening to talk to the service manager and see if they will do mine. Only 6800 miles on an 06. Doubt they will do the entire fix the first time, but a new/free bearing is better than nothing, I guess.... Also going to see if they will tack weld the bolt heads to the stator cover while it is apart, if nothing else it is worth a piece of mind since it seems to be another common issue.

06Low;

If yours is definitely making the whirring noise (that rolls to a stop when you pull in the clutch, and spools back up when you release the lever), call Milwaukee Customer Service to establish a "Reference Number" before you go talk to your dealer. But before you even do that, print out a copy of the "pink letter" (Addendum To Owner's Manual) and study my thread mentioned above. If yours is bad, you'll likely get just the bearing & race the first time.

Thanks for the advice. I will give the MoCo a call and see what they say. Might be a little harder process then some have experienced since I am the second owner. We will see....

Same situation here. I'm the 2nd owner. I bought it privately, not thru a dealer.

Have you had any luck getting yours replaced? I also did not buy through a dealer.

Just had the ipb replaced for the second time on the wife's 06 st bob. 33k on the bike. First bearing replacement in july/aug 07.(Was under 15k at the time) Within a month, the stator went bad. Just had the bearing replaced 2nd time about a month ago, stator took a **** last week! Curious to me that right after the bearing is replaced the stator goes? anyone else have this? The dealer has taken care of the bearing no problem but won't touch the stator. We're the original owners of this bike and have the original letter we signed when we bought it re the ipb. NO ONE should be having to pay a dime for the IPB replacement! We're over 2 yrs oow and they never questioned it a month ago, they just did the work. (Not the dealer the bike came from originally!). Now, we need some help. Just got off the phone with cs at the moco and they tell me they won't touch the stator I have to go through a local dealer. The bike is already at an independent shop. Anyone had any satisfaction getting the stator issue covered? It HAS to be related to the ipb deal...seems like a fault in the design/tolerances in the primary for these 2 parts to fail like this!
Thanks for any assistance.
