Installed xied's on my 09 SG a couple days ago. Throttle response is sooo much better, roll on has improved so much it's like I changed gearing (lot less shifting). Still get some decel burble but exhaust note is much deeper. My question is regarding idle rpm. Previously the idle was quite high but consistent. Now I get a preferred lope most of the time but occasionly get the high idle rpm and a distinct vibration in the front end. Should I, wait awhile to see if the ecm adjusts, have dealer reflash or go for SE download?
I have them too on my Dyna and that is one cheap mod and the bike runs soooo cool too. I had my scoot mapped after intake and pipes. Actually the o6 Dynas have the Delphi ECM and it probably would have adjusted for the difference. I left my XiEDs as Night Rider set the mix at 14.3 I think it was. It runs smooth and it runs as cool as if i had installed a oil cooler. You can tell the difference without even measuring the temps. My pipes inside went from a really light tan to a tan and my plugs look right on too. My bike is a California bike and it isn't any more

Reason: add on
What is Xied exactly? Is it fuel management like a Power Commander, or is it something that can be added along with a fuel management system?
They are two harnesses. For HDs with oxygen sensors in the exhaust pipes. They have a potentiometer built into the harness that is adjustable. These trick the engine ECM into thinking you are about 10,000 feet or whatever and the ECM richens the fuel and give a smoother throttle, but the biggest plus is it knocks the heat off the engine like crazy. Since you don't look like you work for Uncle, I guess in a nutshell I can tell you it defeats EPA regulations as far as tailpipe emissions go. Even with the fuel injected engine like mine, it feels like a well tuned carb without the fuss of chokes and all that we dealt with before.
I rode to San Diego, a 240 mile trip for me and the weather going was nice and cool as I went by the ocean, so it was not much of a test there, but returning I rode a bit longer way of the desert route. I was in 100+ temps and one good sized mountain. The bike ran fantastic and the few times I stopped and put my hands near the exhaust, I could tell by the seat of my pants that it was much cooler than before XiEDs.
There is a website called Night Rider, you can read up what he has there and if he has a set up for your application and the cost. I paid $110 for mine plus shipping, but he gives discounts to military etc. Do a search, I don't have the exact address.
I have the XIED's on my '08 and have the same inconsistent idle and etc. you are experiencing. I've had them on for a year or so now. I also have an SE airbox with the HD download so that isn't going to make a difference for you. I get a lot of popping on deceleration but the bike otherwise runs great (and cooler in hot weather) so I don't care to change the set up.

Those terms are synonomous when you retard the timing and fake it into thinking its doing something its not.
The Xied's would have been sufficient all by themselves. All you'd have is a almost un-noticeable gurgle from the pipes.
On a group ride last month, I got stuck in gridlock on US101 in Santa Barbara. Everyone experienced a major meltdown and had to pull off to cool. I sat there cool as a cucumber wondering why. Cause I got the Xied's.
I installed XIED's on my Dyna right after I bought it so all I knew is how the bike ran with them. It always seem to run rich with a lot of black soot in the tailpipes. Just before I traded it in I removed the XIED's and I could not believe how much better it ran without them. I'm talking way better. More power and better response.
I know alot of folks swear by them but they did not work well on mine.

Sounds like your bike was already running a little rich for some reason, so you didn't need the Xieds.
