let me ask a question for my buddy, he has a dyna wide glide fuel injected he bought the past winter, just under 100 miles, riding this weekend we traded bikes for about a 10 mile stretch, now i liked the feel of the mini apes and the forward pegs damn thing fit me like a glove BUT i couldn't wait to get back on my 04 softtail standard, his bike vibrated it seems everywhere, it did smooth out some while riding but long rides are out of the question, he has rubbermounts on the engine but i cant think that would be the problem, i told him to get it back to the dealer and he tells me it always vibrated like that. is this normal? seems too much for a fuel injection new bike. any information i can pass to him would be helpful
This subject has come up before. It would seem that either some people notice vibration more than others (I've had every metric brand, and they all vibrated at some speed), or the long front end and narrow tire really does vibrate and I don't know it, or your friend has a problem bike.
My '06 WG vibrates like crazy at idle, and I love it, and it vibrates at no other time, not at any speed 0-120. The wind gives me a shake now and then, but no more than any other bike I've had in the past 40 years.
Honestly, this is the best bike I've ever had. However, all my bikes have been plain and simple, no saddle bags, windshields (except the last one for one year), or any other stuff; just me with the wind trying to push me off the back the faster I go.
Comfort? 90 miles round trip every day; I like the seat. Never had high bars before, but I wouldn't go back.
Guess I'm weird. No other friend, family member, or co-worker rides so they all think I'm weird. Actually I'm wired.
Good luck figuring out your friends problem.
A friend rides a Wide Glide, his woman rides a Softail. Both are 05's. After riding her bike he wants one. He says the difference in vibration is due to her Softail having the TC2 counterbalanced motor. Personally, I think Wide Glides are intended to be a bit on the raw side and should vibrate to remind you that this is no rice rocket but instead Harley's most aggressive "factory custom". If I wanted smooth, I'd have bought an '06 Road King.
thanks, reading between the lines it seems his bike is doing what it is intended to do, guess my candy a$$ just wont be hardcore enough for the wide-glide, it could be worse, thanks again

Not exactly. I had a bit too much vibes in my '06, had the engine re-aligned and the injectors changed(8 degree to 25) which handled about 90% of the problem. A lot of what I feel right now is road vibration from that skinny front tire. It's a Dyna, get used to it or go to an FL with the bigger tires.
