Yes. Don't believe the load of crap that the amazon and ebay sellers try to pass off when they sell the cheap throw-overs. As they settle and sag, they will find their way on to parts that they shouldn't be touching.

you will want something back there. after my trip to the easyrider rodeo in chillicothe ohio, i had to clean my bike... it was FILTHY! found out my easy bracket rubbed my upper belt guard a few times. didnt make it thru the powder coated, but to the wrinkle finish and sanded it somewhat smooth.

I just got a set of extra large throw-overs from Leather-Up and they just barely
fit on my 09 SG.

http://www.leatherup.com/s/CRUISER%2...X%20SADDLEBAGS

The yoke between the bags is adjustable and by tightening that up I have raised
them enough that when I sling them over the seat they JUST clear the springs
but do just barely touch the relocated turn signals. I think I can play with them
a bit more and improve that. They have straps that I attached to the mid-pegs
(another good reason to retain them) and the license plate mount. They
are very stable and did not shift in 4 hours of test riding. This weekend will
be the first time I actually load them up and we'll see how they do.

Here are a couple pics I made on the test ride a few days ago...

The rack bag is a Kuyakan Mini-gran that stays on the bike almost all the time,
and the large back pack is one I bought at REI. It has an internal frame so it
holds its shape and can be lashed to the sissybar. The belly band and shoulder
straps are removable so you don't have all that garbage flopping around.

If you find a set of throwovers that have a zip-off yoke...you could get one of the detachable systems and have inexpensive detachable bags.

They ones I just posted above are zip-offs and I'm probably headed in that
direction as soon as I work out what's necessary to make it work with the
HD quick-detachable sissybar set-up. I know people have done that, I just
need to find out how.

I think I'd look at the barebacks. I finally saw a set of ez-brackets in person and wow they push the bags out pretty far, especially when you factor in the detach hardware.

Brackets/supports will protect the bags AND your bike. Some people try to get away with not using them, especially if they are seldom going to have the bags on the bike. But it's better to have them, whether detachable or permanent.

You should run saddlebag supports if you dont want your throw overs messing up your ride. the down side is the supports are bolted to the bike, and look awfully goofy when the bags are removed, and it takes an act of god to swap the supports out for the original hardware.

EZBrackets/Ghost Brackets eliminate the need for supports, but space your bags out so damn far, the bike looks pregnant. The nice part is you can lock the bags to the bike.

BareBacks are a pain to install and get lined up right to work easy. The plus to these is you can put together your own supports out of flat stock and bolt it to the bags along with the barebacks. You can set the spacing off the bike yourself at whatever distance you want.

The system that comes with Boss Bags is sweet, but you cant get it separately from Boss. That sucks.

I've been experimenting with Saddlemen's system, re-engineering it slightly. So far, I've got the bags tucked in tight, and the support is easily removeable when the bags come off. The jury is still out on whether I'm going to continue with this, or blow more bucks on something different.

Yes, I've tried almost all, and I'm still not completely happy. Dyna's and Sporties are strange ducks when it comes to the "right" combination of saddlebag and mount system. Whatever you do, shitcan the throwover yoke before it does 3 times the damage to your bike than the bags cost.
