Dodged a bullet...
My bike came from the dealer with a charger pigtail wired in. It had always been tucked behind the front of the upper belt guard. I pulled it out a while ago while cleaning and found this...
The plastic had been worn thru within a couple thousandths of shorting out the positive leg to the belt guard it had been vibrating against for 16K miles!
You probably would have been OK had not crossed the mountains last month. Even as little as a day on the dry east side exposes you to more gritty abrasive contaminants than you would see in a ten year time span on the west side.
If you're buying that BS Patrick.....give me a call I more **** to sell you!!!
Seriously though, good timing on finding it. You would hope it would have resulted in a blown fuse but it could very well have been worse.
Run wires directly to the battery (use Loc-Tite). To make a quick connect / disconnect you can solder wires to a banana jack and mount it some were out of sight. Use an additional banana jack on the Battery Tender leads. http://shop3.frys.com/product/237909...H:MAIN_RSLT_PG
Mine is the same way. I had it rolled up under the battery cover for summer time untill a few weeks ago my starter clutch drive went out. The tek at HD popped it out the back of the box with the + cable and left it loose under there.I found it two weeks later when I was fiddleing with the pcV,mine ain't as gone as yours but not much better.
