What's the usual mileage on a rear tire? My 07' has 6300 miles and I'm already in need of a new rear tire. Anybody have any recommendations on a new replacement tire? I've priced them everywhere but the size stock is 160/70 17" and I'm not having much luck finding that size at very many tire dealers around my area. Will that stock wheel take any other size 17' tire? Thanks
I have 11,000 miles on my rear tire so I'm running Bologna skins right now , you get **** mileage on motorcycle tires and their more expensive the car tires !!!
up to a 180 tire will fit, i have the SE 180, will go with a cheapo 170 next, i am tired of spending big bucks on tires that don,t last. 7-10K miles or less depends on how hard you ride.
your gonna hear everything from 5000 to 15000 miles. depends on the tire and how you ride. ive been runnin the SE 180 and got around 11000 miles on the first one. its a little pricey but its a great tire.
I got less than 7k out of my stock tire and I have never done a burnout or spun a rear tire in my life. Others get 10k or more. I think it depends on your riding style, yes, but also the roads you ride on. I do a lot of backroad riding and where I live the back road surfaces are fairly rough. Sort of like riding on a cheese grater. I still have the stock front tire though and at around 10k miles, it's style in good shape. I replaced the rear with the Dunlop SE 180 tire which is made to fit the stock dyna rear rim specifically. However, that tire is known to be soft and wear even more quickly than the stock rear tires. Yeh, they aren't cheap, relatively speaking, but it's not like I'm replacing it every couple of months. I probably could have squeezed some more miles out of my rear tire but on a bike is not where I want to experience a blowout.
Like everyone else stated there are lots of factors on tire wear.
Roads
Style
Weight
2-up
Inflation
and I also think how fast you put the miles on one effects it. It seems from what I have seen bikes that sit more often dont get as many miles out of a tire.
I ride only solo, am only 165lbs, ride fairly aggressive but no burnouts or anything, check my tire pressure alot, and ride on mainly smooth black top roads and got 11,500 out of my stock tire in about 13 months of riding.
