Apes Height recommendations
I have a 2007 FXDC. I was able to put mini apes, (from a street bob), on it without changing clutch or brake cables. The clutch cable just barley.
When I addsed 3.5 inch risers on with the mini apes it definitely required a new clutch cable and brake cable and throttle idle cables. To be honest I cant remember if I needed to change the throttle/idle cables when I swapped to the mini apes as I had some longer oem take offs from a softail at the time. I have since changed out all my cables to diamond backs.
So in short: I think you could most definitely get away with putting some mini apes on there, any thing bigger and it's time for some new cables all around.
Cheers,
Tom

Some have installed the Street Bob/ Wide Glide 10" mini-apes on the Super Glides without changing cables. They found themselves re-routing the clutch cable and bending the brake-line to get them to reach. There is just enough slack in the switch wiring, which is tucked in the frame, to work with mini-apes.
I chose to go a head and replace the cables and lines so I would not be riding with any potential stress on the cables trying to make them reach. Not trying to imply those that did it this way were wrong, just not the way I decided to go.
