IPB Redux and Request
5,800 miles IPB fails and replaced under warranty.
June '09 - 14,200 miles I thought I heard the dreaded whirling noise. I write HD with particulars and enclose copy of warranty repair order.
Get a phone call from Heidi. She gives me Reference Number and tells me to bring bike to dealer if noise is there. Says HD will make good on repair and tells me to have dealer call with Reference Number if any questions.
Rode bike and no noise so I thought it was my imagination and all is well.
Yesterday & today 15,550 miles and noise IS BACK.
Bringing bike to dealer, which is under new ownership. Mostly new service staff from his other dealership, which is OK. Service Manager is left-over from prior owner and I don't think he's fully into the new owner's "Provide the Customer with a Great Experience" program yet.
I'd like to have my ducks in a row and I'd appreciate it if someone could post (or PM me)a copy of HD's letter saying it's no longer necessay to replace the bearing at 15,000 miles intervals.
Did a search but there are a lot of IPB related posts and I sort of gave up
Thanks,
Sammi

Well, went to dealer this am armed with my letter to HD, repair order for the previous IPB replacement, the 2 HD letters that were posted here, and the HD Reference Number.
What I hoped for didn't happen - was for the dealer to call HD, get approval for the fix, including '07 trans cases and I'm all set.
The way the dance will work is the dealer takes the bike apart, diagnosis the problem as a failed bearing, then call HD using my Reference Number.
I called HD Customer Service and they told me that authorization on HD's dime for a second failure is made on a case-by-case basis for out-of warranty work.
So there!!!
On the positive side the dealer's Service Writer and the Warranty Manager were aware of bearing failures on '06 Dynas. (new staff since I brought the bike in last time - the previous guys has no idea what I was talking about)
Have and appointment to bring the bike in next Monday and recap the problem with the Warranty and Service Managers, and hopefully know whats up sometimes next week.
