Well if he goes with a pre 06 Wide Glide they don't have the vibration in the passenger pegs. For some reason the Moco decided to move the pegs to the swing arm when they redesigned the Dyna frame.

I wondered about that comment. If anyone would know about peg vibration - it would be my wife. I gave her boards as I was tired of cleaning her boot from my exhaust pipe, but she hasn't complained about vibration.

To the OP - if you get the WG, get used to the comment 'except FXDWG'

Either one is a great looking bike, but you'll have to decide which one rides the best.

LOL! No ****......alot of that in the parts catalogs.....lol

As far as ride, you may want to take your height into consideration and figure out which one you will have to modify more to get to the point where it is comfortable to ride for you. I own a Wide Glide but [being pretty short] am probably more suited to a Softail Custom as far as dimensions. In order for me to get the ride I wanted I added mini floorboards, long horn break pedal and a reach seat to make it less of a stretch to the controls and to become completely flat footed at the stop lights. Sitting on a friend's ST (Standard_ I would have not had to do any of those things (his is pretty stock as of now).

I do however, love the way my bike rides now that it "fits" me. Something about being able to "Feel" the motor as I go thru the gears is exciting to me. Mine is the '03 and the passenger pegs aren't on the swingarm. My wife hasn't complained about them at all. (then again she was on the back of my 96' sportster for years and didn't really complain either).

As far as looks the angles are completely different on the two bikes though you may confuse them at first glace other than the obvious shocks showing on the WG. The Softail has more angles to almost everything and the Wide Glide seems a bit more "robustly boxier" if that makes any sense. For that reason I prefer to see a Wide Glide dressed and a Softail naked.

Take these two pictures and open them up in separate windows. the flip from one pic to the other and you will see what I mean.

See what I mean?

So the obvious answer is to find the best combination of looks versus feel and that one would be the bike for you

You summed it up nicely and the two pics are just right for comparison.

I think the WG looks boxier because of the square battery box vs the more rounded oil tank and battery box on the ST. I also agree the ST looks better naked so it shows off the rigid looking rear end whereas it's not so much of an issue with the Dyna's in general.

Both are nice bikes, no bad choice here. I was also considering the STC but I ended up with the WG because I liked the optional paint.

Really like them both, but if it were me buying, I'd go with the WG.

Take a look at how the rear peg/floorboards mount on your '05 and then compare it to a 06-10 dyna model. The new models mount directly to the swing arm, yours mount to the frame.

I really like the softail custom. My thing about the bike is the too short forwards. The dyna just has more room for my long arms and legs.

I didn't know that until this thread shined the light. Wonder what the moco 'advantage' was on that one? Change you can believe in...
