I carry about 15lbs of tools. Basically, I went over my bike with my home tool set and looked at every fastener/job I think I might need or have to perform on the side of the road, made a list, and went to a cheapo tool store and bought the tools. I put them in a 3 buck zippered bag from Walmart. It is far more complete than one of the premade tool kits you can buy and cost less $$, as well.

This is what I carry that all fits in a small pouch and takes up little space in the saddlebag...

I use one of the Cruz Tools kits -- HD1, I think. After a few years, I suppose I'd be comfortable throwing out one of the plug wrenches. I've used almost everything else. I've added a set of small needle-nose pliers, a fuse-puller/tester, spare fuses and some zip ties.

Cruz or Windzone both good. I have had both the Windzone is better. I added, headlight bulb, (turn signal bulbs were included in my tool kit) I also added heat shrink, a tiny folding space blanket, a lighter, a set of Craftsmen Torx's, spare fuses, two long chem lights. Also have a set of ICE dog tags with my wifes contact information, and my blood type. PS I wear the tags around my neck not in the tool bag. They are very cheap and if you have a medical condition, might save your life, plus the peace of mind knowing that someone in your family will get notified. Stuff happens, and we often don't know when it will.

I have one very similar to this which I filled with torx, some stubby wrenchs from Home Depot that were .99 each and a bunch of zip ties.

Someone on this forum once said "Every tool you use to work on your bike should be in your tool kit."

I follow that to a T. My tool bag is continually growing with each service.

In addition to the other things mentioned here (I have the Windzone with added tools) one important thing to put in there is a couple of $20's. You never know where you'll be when you actually need something and I've run across the "we don't take credit cards" so I keep some $20's hidden away in there.

That is pretty solid advice! Stashing money away is always a great idea. This has been a great informative post! Thanks to all!
