what kind of forwards are they? and do they come with the front cap for the primary after you take out or cut out the mid shift shaft? and what about the rear is there a plug or cap for that? the primary is filled up to the bottom of derby cover with fluid no? cant it leak out without plugging front and rear primary covers or does part of the shaft remain in place?
Have you had any problems yet finding neutral yet after the bike is warmed up when you are using the stock rear shift rod?
I;ve heard changing the rear shifter over to the one in the forwards kit makes this problem go away. But how to remove the rear shifter off without splitting the case is what confuses me.
Any ideas, .... to also which might soon be your problem.
If you received all the parts with the kit. Read # 4, Note, #5, #6 and 7 on the instruction sheet. It will tell you how to fasten down the loose shift-lever.

Yes, I have this problem also. I thought it was the nature of the beast. But I got my forwards used off this tread. They did come with the rear shifter but I never changed it, figured it was the same. I'll try that and see if It helps. Now when I roll to a stop it is impossible to just shift it into neutral. Where it was easy before almost nautral now I have to stop and go back and forth to get it into neutral. By the time I get there the light changes and I'm off again, LOL.
If you didn't get the shift lever retainer with your pre-owned kit, search for the instruction sheets data base and you should be able to get that required part from your dealer.
I pushed the old rod inwards so it's flush with the outer primary. Then I forced the lever behind the nut on the engine. It's stayed there for several hundred miles and it's almost un-noticable.
Thats just what I did, it is un-noticeable.. It stayed this way for several hundred miles, and then I had the IPB replaced, took it out when the Primary was open..
Hey Sonny's World! Looks good. My wife loves her forwards, but I still like my (more aggressive) mid's. Unfortunately, my shift lever bent as I gently lowered my bike when the jiffy stand did not lock in place. Okay - stupid me... Anyway, what are your plans for your mid-mount shift lever? I sure can use one ;-)
