mini apes on a lowrider?
im itchin to try them on my lowrider, does anyone know if my cables are long enough. if not and i need to buy new ones, i might go for taller bars. i already had to extend the wires when i put on my t-bars so that not a problem. i guess i'm gettin bored again.
thanks

You dont have to listen to me if you dont want to. Try it and find out for yourself.
I put mini apes on my '03 lowrider, from the stock bars. I also went from the longer stock push-back risers to shorter straight risers.
I clamped a straight edge to the top of the handle bars then had my son hold the bike up straight, and measured the height from the floor to the straight edge before and after the modification. This way I knew if would need new cables or not.
I also strongly suggest pulling the gas tank off.
With the tank off, not only does it make it easier to adjust the position of the throttle cables, but if you happen to drop anything or slip with a tool the tank won't get dinged.
The wires for both signal lights came out of the left side hole in the neck which made the wires for the right turn signal too short to double back around the neck.\
I didn't want to go cutting and splicing, so I took the right signal light assembly apart, and fed the wires and socket thru the hole in the right side of the neck (after removing the rubber plug), then reassembled it.
The throttle cables were long enough, I just had to reposition them but I did have to get a +6 clutch cable
When you research a clutch cable, there are a few dimensions you need to be aware of.
The overall cable length (the inside), the distance from the ferrule that goes into the clutch perch to the adjuster, and the overall lenght of the outer shield.
All in all it took me about 7 hours and a 6 pack.

Hi lowriderrob what size are the mini apes you put on? I just purchased an 03 low rider from a coworker and it has the long pushback risers but Id rather have at least 12" minis. I'm trying to see if I can complete a straight swap with 12" or if I definitely have to re-run new cables. Any info on the mini apes you put on would be appreciated.

Sorry I can't answer your question. lowriderrob hasn't been on the forum for a few month's, so you might not get a reply from him.
I just wanted to say thanks for bumping this old thread. dpriest hasn't been on here for a long time, and I had forgotten how much I liked his bike. Nice to see a pic of it again.
