I have a 1996 DYNA Superglide, and somehow the 3 pin rear light connector (under the seat) has come unplugged, and try as I might, I can't find where it plugs back in.
I had the electrical panel off to replace the ignition module two days ago. the bike started right up after I was done, but I didn't notice if the rear lights were on or not. Tonight I went to ride, and couldn't because the lights were out. I removed the seat and found the plug disconnected.
Any help would be really appreciated. The clymer repair book is no help at all.
Only alternative I have it taking it to the dealership, and that's going to be both embarassing and costly..
Try follow the rear fender underside, slip your hand under it and find where the wire goes!
the new bike has label on it, the wires must go some where.
Well the blinkers work, but not the running lights or signal (full on like the front). I don't think my old bike has any acc. plugs. The connector has a little grease on it too, so I think it's been connected for years, but somehow I dislodged it. I'm going to pull the battery side apart tonight and see if it's on that side. All the wires under the back fender look good. They thread thru a hole in the fender leading under the seat to this connector (male type 3 pin D shape). I feel so baffled and silly at the same time. I just know it has to be there somewhere, but I cant' see anything.
I have no running lights in the rear (when you turn the key to "on"). The blinkers are working as well as the brake light (when you hit the lever or pedal). Usually when I turn the key on front and rear lights are all on steady, now when I turn the key to on, I only have front lights.
no lights come on in the rear when I turn the key on. I'm pretty sure the rear signals should be on (like the front ones) steady, as well as the trail light.
I'm 100% certain this connector should be connected. I'm just very perplexed as to where it connects. Should be obvious as all heck, but its not.
Unless it's aftermarket, I don't think the rear sigs are running lights.
I would look closer at the rear brake light bulb.
The description you give sounds like the filament is bad on the running light...it's a dual filament.
If the blinkers blink, then they are obviously plugged in and there is usually only one set of wires going to the sigs...UNLESS as stated before there is some aftermarket stuff going on.
I'd start with the brake light bulb and work out from there if it was me.
