No you don't have to but I would recommend getting tapered push rods.

tapered pushrods. Required for high lift cams. The stockers will rub, wear through, and eventually break. Is that enough info?

I know Im guilty of it too but give the OP a break...he asked an honest question. Not everyone is an engine builder or has experience doing so.

Second...the OP didn't mention anything about using hi-lift cams so why assume he will be.

Thanks Vic. I'll withdraw my sarcastic remark.
I really do hope that if the OP's looking to do this himself for the first time, he has someone thats been through it before to watch over him. It's no fun to find out you've made a mistake when you dont know what it was when you did it. I think I remember reading the OP was going to use relatively mild cam. If thats the case, he wont need tapered, but using adjustable pushrods aint a bad idea. That extra couple of thousandths you pick up by using them over stockers is worth it for geting rid of the high rpm valve clatter.

I used the SE pro taper push rods in my build. They are pretty cheep and very compairable to the other brands. I think I got them from zanottis for $140? It is nice to be able to adjust if you want, and if you want to do a cam swap later on, you can do it without pulling the gas tank and rocker boxes.

I also replaced the lifters when mine was down. I used standard HD lifters, alot of guys use them in big dollar builds. 18538-99B

Get the SE adjustable pushrods, you'll save alot of time by not having to remove the tank and rocker boxes and wont have to buy new gaskets. They're worth it to me.
