I use a hydraulic cable oiler like this:




They cost about $25 but worth every penny and last a lifetime. You attach it to whichever end of the cable is easiest to access, fill it with oil and screw in the piston which pumps oil through the entire length of the cable in seconds lubricating it thoroughly. It makes a big difference, especially on older cables.
