Not sure how you would do a 'blue book' comparison between your cage and the shovel, but I'd try to find some reasonable estimates of the fair market value (FMV) ... ultimately, though I suppose it's your own personal FMV evaluation.
I find myself strangely drawn to old iron, but not sure if I'd go for a shovelhead ... a panhead or a knucklehead in a 'New York minute!' I understand the quality suffered a little during the 'AMF' years .... Although I suppose it is like anything--if you get a lemon, there'll be no end of it; but if you don't, you could have a pretty good experience ....

I have done the research and weighed the good and bad. it looks like they are pretty equal in value. the good thing about Shovelheads, is that there are a LOT of them out there, and a lot of aftermarket fixes for their issues for a really inexpensive price.
basically boils down to me wanting a new project for the winter. guess we will see tomorow when I finally get to see this thing in person!
