Default Help

know that this quesiton has been ask and answered many times. But I need to know! Why would somebody choose a Dyna over a Softail and vis versa? Is it the ride, style, comfort, ect... I currently a ride and my wife is not interested in long distance riding, maybe around town. So, the bike I want will be used around town two up riding and solo long distance riding, I'm 6' 190lbs

I chose Dyna Low Ryder because I had read about how forgiving they are to a new rider, I have a 30" inseam, it came with a wide front tire, it had center controls, it felt "right" when I sat on it, my wife liked the colour, and it was available for immediate delivery. I am not a bit sorry for my purchase and I have been doing quite a bit of two up riding lately with no problems.

I bought my Low Rider because I liked the look and I think it just "fit" me. It's all a matter of personal preference.

The Softails are geared differently (taller) and turn fewer RPM on the hiway. Dynas are geared lower and give you a bit more umph around town and the lack of a balance shaft gives you about 500 more RPM on the top end. The Balance shaft will eat some of your power as well.

If you want to have a huge selection of aftermarket parts, the Softail is the way to go. I can't count the number of times I find a part that seems to be exactly what I want for my bike only to find that is isn't made for a Dyna. I think that there is a huge void in the aftermarket for Dyna parts (except for the FXDWG which I almost lump in with the Softails). Pipes have especially irked. V&H doesn't make Big Shot longs for the Dyna! WTF?!? The parts thing is the only downside I have found to owning a Dyna.

I think that you hit it on the head. Ride, style, comfort. I chose my Springer Softail because of the style of the springer front forks. The way that it felt when I sat on it. The best thing that I can say, is this. Try different HD's and see which one feels the best to you and also, the one that you like the looks of best. The rest, is pure fun.

From my experience, the dyna models with the tradititionally sprung rear end is a more comfortable ride especially with 2-up, and has a litlle more zip but it would be really cool if they would put the "B" motor in the dynas because the softails are really smooth engine wise. just my .02--jack

I chose the softail. The height of the new softail night train seat is the same as a low rider, it is a little longer, forward controls. I like a long-low looking bike. But personal preference is what it is all about. I'll bet if you gave me a wide glide or low rider for a week, I'd be in heaven just the same.
