Saint or anyone who can answer, what was it about the FXDX's that made them handle so much better than the FXD/C's ???

Is it just a different suspension system or what? I'm looking at buying a 2010 Superglide Custom and then just blacking it out and modding the **** out of it but how exactly would I make it handle as good as the X's?

G, in 2000, HD started to put a much hotter suspension on the FXDX and FXDXT. The front forks were adjustable and the rear shocks were VERY good. It also has more travel than the other dynas off of the floor giving it more lean angle and ground clearance.
You can make the new dynas handle very well, but be prepared to spend a lot of money.
Honestly, if I had it to do over again, I would have bought a good used FXDX.
Especially now that the market is so soft, you can find a good deal if you take your time. Or, you can find a good FXR and beef it up.
If the economy ever turns around, I definitely want to build myself an FXR....one day!!

That varies and depends on just how far you want to take it and who you talk to to. Everyone has different opinions on suspension...ultimately it's your decision. Personally, I prefer Works suspension components, but that's just me.
The true trac stabilizer will set you back approximately 400 bones. Like I said, as for suspension, just shop around and do your homework. You could look on ebay for a good used set of FXDX take off rear shocks to start with. The front end can be beefed up with Works components, Ricor components...the list goes on. Stay away from Progressive shocks if you're looking for any type of performance.
Howard at Motorcycle Metal offers some very good suspension products.

One thing I forgot to mention is that the FXDX came with dual front disc brakes....the newer dynas do not, with the exception of the Fat Bob. You can convert your front end to dual discs, but then again, more money spent.

In the end, you're limited only by the size of your wallet.

Thanks Saint. I do definitely value your opinion, based mainly on how much I like your creation!

I'll admit I never really seen the front fairings on bikes until SOA, but that aside, I have been swayed towards Dyna's for a long time. I really could care less if people try and label me as a poser once I have a fairing on the bike I end up buying because I think they're bad ***!!!!!! As for everything else on your bike (the heavy breather, Thunderheader and blacked out everything) this is exactly what I already wanted to do.

Thanks again

some cool vids

i believe another difference between fxdxt/fxdx and the rest of the dyna line was a sporty based 28* rake

fxdx's,fxdxt's and fxr's(best handling HD i've ever rode) are gettin' cheaper an' cheaper every day
