Default Extra part???

After I swapped out my chrome primary cover for wrinkle black, I noticed the wrinkled black
cover had a peg attached to it. Should I have transferred this part over to the chrome one or am I ok to just ride?

I don't know how important it is but I transferred mine when I did my swap. It has to serve some kind of purpose. I almost forgot about it.

Just curious, anyone know what it's for? The bikes with mids do not use it.

What do you mean the bikes with mids do not use it? That's wierd. My bike originally had mids but was changed out to forwards at the dealer before I picked it up. That part is not included in the forward control conversion kit. So I have to assume that it came from the factory with it.

My 02 nor the05 doesn't have that. To me what it looks like is something to keep the primary chain from popping up and hitting the top of the primary or limit the upward travel on Harley's auto adjusting device on the chain. Just a SWAG.

It's not a plug for the mids. Not shown in Wide96 6 pics above the mid hole is in front of this shaft.

Just a guess, but maybe for vibration or noise damping?

My original black one had a thick sleeve around the bolt...almost like a weight, so I put it on the chrome cover.

I hate taking wild guesses, but could that be some kind of support to protect the inner primary mechanisms in case of impact? Prolly not ,and there's no mention or detail in the manual about that bolt, furthermore if it was some srt of plug for the absence of mid peg the hole would not be in the right spot 'cording to the drawing in the manual which are usually quite precise.
