sorry if it wasnt you, but did you do a post on the way in which you tackled the wrapping of a 2-1 pipe? if so could you point me in the direction of that post, or give me some tips on how you did this because your pipes look freakin killer wrapped like that.
thanks

I wraped my stock headers and left the chrome mufflers on. I like it. And it did cut down on the heat. I took the pipes off and sprayed the ends of pipes and flanges black with flame proof header paint. After the color wore out of the black wrap. I masked off everything and sprayed the wrap with the flame proof when still on the bike it looks real good. I used regular hose clamps and they look nice. I did this to my stock headers because I was consediring getting new pipes anyway, so if they cracked after a few years it would be ok.

I used moose racing wrap.

its gonna be hard to put a time frame on this for you man. I ran mine wrapped on a bike I had a few years ago and never had a problem. I have read threads here that state the pipe cracked within weeks

A few weeks might be a little too soon. Mine showed signs of deterioration about a year later. I discovered it when I unwrapped the pipes to work on the bike.

had a friend that wrapped his pipes (stock engine) and the pipes got so hot that they became unbearable so he put the heat shields back on over the wrap.

Forgive me for resurrecting an old thread as well as for asking a potentially stupid question.
What about wrapping the stock pipes and slip-on mufflers, heat shields and all?
I'm not new to riding, but I'm fairly new to customizing. I just got my 2012 Fat Boy Lo and I'm thinking the wrapped pipes will look good with the black denim paint. I'm also hoping to cut down on the heat factor as I live in Nevada and I know my commute could be pretty brutal come summer.
I see some differing opinions in this thread. Some say wrapping reduces the amount of heat you feel coming off your pipes, which is what it's supposed to do as I understand it. But others are saying that the heat becomes much worse after wrapping. Would wrapping the shields and all help to alleviate this? Or would that be a stupid thing to do?
