Ive been reading threads for a couple weeks across all the forums here regarding exhaust/pipe wrap with what seems to be many different opinions. Id like to wrap my pipes on my SB (up to the mufflers) in a black wrap, keeping the chrome mufflers exposed. What kind of results should I expect in regards to heat from the pipes? Will I feel an increase, decrease or the same amount of heat with the wrap vs. the OEM heat shield?
it will be about the same man to be honest... they just change the look more than anything unless you have a high performace motor
here is what mine looked like set up that way
It does hold in enough heat to eventually crack the pipes. It's that reason that most header manufacturers will not warranty pipes that have been wrapped. I don't think it affects the bikes like it does the headers because the stock head pipes on my bike seem to be heavier walled tubing than any of the headers I've put on my cars.
the same is good, just wont be able to deal with more heat. I sit in traffic on the way to work every day and afternoon. This FL heat is a killer!
thinking about some Xieds to richin' the mixture and maybe bring down the heat???
dude, im in pensacola....i recently wrapped my pipes, and I will guarantee you will feel a good bit more heat. It's enough that I sometimes keep my right leg on the pegs at the lights. Its more than noticable
i wraped my buell and dyno it before and after i gained about somewhere around 10hp.I wraped my 06 springer but i didnt dyno it yet.It cracked the header on the buell were 2 pipes goes in to 1 at the weld.
