I've got my primary making noise. I just replaced the main shaft bearing and the race - and (although it's MUCH better) it's still making some noise - so tore it back apart and replaced the bearing on the back of the clutch (which had some dead spots in the ***** - and again, much better but still making some noise). Took the transmission door off (on the exhaust side) and looked at those bearings, but there doesnt seem to be anything wrong with them. I'm running out of chit to replace.
The kicker is, it's making noise in neutral. As soon as you kick it in gear, the noise goes away... same symptoms of the inner primary bearing, which i replaced. It was torn all up - and the noise is much quieter, but the HD tech working on it with me says he's put enough of those in to know it still aint right. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Also - if i've forgotten any needed information, let me know.
what bearing did you replace your IPB with? if it is making the noise still in nutrual i would be willing to bet it is the IP bearing. I would relace it with the baker IP high torque. did you set the race on the output the right distance when you put in the IPB?

I'm running AMSoil in all 3 holes.
I have the exact same story... EXACT! Now add the info below to the end of yours...
However 3 weeks ago, with 3 days left on my warranty I went and bitched up a storm.
I called Harley also to insure my satisfaction. They re-replaced EVERY bearing and race(tranny bearings too) AGAIN and installed a new $700 gear set and new shafts. (for those wondering, my IP case was already doweled)
For the first time since I bought the bike (it now has 12,800 on it), the bike runs smooth as silk and ABSOLUTELY no noise. Having never owned a Harley before, I thought it was supposed to vibrate that bad and run that shitty. Anyway, I was gonna trade it as soon as it was fixed but it is running SO good I think I'll keep her.

Shouldn't matter. HD knows there's a problem with the '06 IPB's. Get a copy of the "pink letter" and push Milwaukee Customer Service to honor it. It's at the end of my thread, "Finally, Good News...".
Top; Glad they finally got you taken care of...I know you've had more frustrations with this than anyone I've heard of.
I did the Baker bearing and it's the way to go. It's a bearing you can buy in the bearing shop but I didn't figure that out until after it was here. I didn't mind though, they did the leg work to figure out what worked so they can have the profit.

Thanks PK! The V&H sound sooo nice now without the whine! I use to hear the friggin whine for 3 blocks away! From 2000 miles until 12,000... they still never figured out what it was so they just replaced EVERYTHING. Besides the gear pack they replaced the tranny compensator kit (whatever that is). While it was there I also had the steering head washer replaced under warranty.
I should have asked for a little oral sex for my 7 weeks of total downtime (in 2 years) while they were at doin stuff for free!

Good for you! Finally...they did you right. Glad to hear you got it worked out.
