I just purchased a new 09 Low rider. I first read about the IPB failure a few days ago. It appears this started on the 06 models. Has HD fixed the problem with design changes on these newer models or is it still an issue even on the 09's?
I've been keeping an eye on this issue as I have a late '06 LR. Fortunately, 20k so far with no problems. From reading all the info on this forum it is definitely an 06 problem that was fixed in 07 with new tranny case with dowel pins. I have seen one or two posts about the issue from guys with 07s or 08s but overall it seems the problem has been fixed.
I would say it is not an issue for you at all, enjoy the ride......
The 06 IPB issue was cause by no alignment dowels in the cases (bonehead cost reduction move). This was discovered mid 2006 model year and remedied. So bikes manufactured in the 2nd half of the 206 MY have the dowels. Unfortunately, mine was born on 12/05
But there are many without the dowels that were aligned at the factory just fine. However, if you have a 2006 with no dowels do NOT remove the inner primary case unless it is a dire emergency. Because getting it back on correctly is a real trick. If this is necessary best to get a set of 2007> cases with the dowels in the casting.

Isn't there a aftermarket bearing kit to resolve this problem or do you still need to have the doweled cases/cover for that kit to work?
