I've run both the Screamin' Eagle hi-flow intake and the K&N hi-flow intake on various bikes, and both are good.

Far as which is 'better', might as well flip a coin...

Right now I'm running the Screamin' Eagle intake on my Softail, with SERT and Dyno tune;

And on my Dyna WideGlide I'm running the K&N intake on a modified Mikuni HSR-42;

definitely the K&N as it is washable and the SE is not anymore. I switched mine out before I got the RSD intake.

The K & N its a quality filter that will last 50000 miles plus with minimal care.

I oil it! don't know if on un-oiled filter will provide enough protection from the dust and particles out there.

I did read the instructions from my first stage one SE filter that it is washable but not to use oil. I am wondering if it will last a while if it's kept clean.

I tried washing mine... did not work out... get the K&N... heck I'll sell you a brand new round one I have for 20 Bucks if you want it. Probably used for less than 100 miles. Let me know.

I got the S/E filter for my 02 around 2003, that's when the S/E kit used the K&N filter. Now the S/E uses a paper non oil filter. The problems I've seen was the rubber gasket deterioating over time. Both bikes have K&N wash and oil once a year.

I know the K&N can be used as an open air, does anybody know if the H-D SE can be used open as well? Does an open-air need to have oil?
