spark plug reading is about useless nowadays to tell all but the most extreme differences in AFR. Also while Harley has been around since 1903, They have only been leaning out these motors as much as they are for a short while. While I do believe that you can probable enjoy a stock Harley for many years, I also do believe that they run Hotter than they used to and as such cooling them down with retuning devices ,oil coolers and synthetic oil will allow for a couple of things ...
lower temperatures will be much more comfortable for the riders on hot days.
a cooler motor lasts longer.
Running an oil cooler, synthetic, and more performance oriented AFR is not going to cause our air cooled bike to run too cool...that's just goofy to think so.
Cheapest in the short/long run is a vance N hines fuelpack.
They are on ebay for $150 or less very often. After buying xieds and eventually realizing the limitations, you'll buy a fuelpack next for $150 shortly after buying the $100 xieds.
I know this is an acceptable solution for someone not wanting to do anything more than a V&H pipe swap and AC upgrade but howabout using it with other brand pipes?
Nevermind. I just looked it up on this ebay site and it says they can be made to work with other brand exhausts.
This may not be the cheapest solution but it's probably the best and the next to cheapest. Otherwise I would suggest a TTS Mastertune but that's another realm entirely.

fuelpack is very hit or miss with a lot of members here... Many have problems with them and chuck em for a better fuel mgmnt. system. Besides I think the OP is stock and just wants his bike to run cooler till he can get a stage 1 pipes and A/C
Hey Anyonbe ever use one of those Slip On over oil filter billet coolers ? wondered if they worked ( I know you have to be riding) just curious if it cools the oil enuff on hot days
What about the download from HD that shuts off the rear cylinder while sitting idle at a traffic light or in traffic jams.. I got that free from the dealer.
Dammmmm....What's wrong with everyone...you had enough faith in Harley Davidson to buy their product (or you just wanted to be cool)..They sell thousands of bikes every year and have been since 1903...give their engineers at least a bit of credit..they may make some mistakes for sure (so do G.M., Chrysler and Ford.) but if these bikes do run hotter than the older bikes, consider the changes they have gone through and mostly for the better..some guys here got a lotta miles on their bike with no extra cooling gadgets.."Oh, Gee..my leg gets hot..better fix my bike".
Synthetic oil AMSOIL brough my temp down 15-20 degrees, by the LCD therm I have. Some folks claim the 2" tank lift from Jackly helps a little, but I have not tested it. Of course a fan or oil cooler would help, but then you are spending hundreds of dollars.
