Being on a tight budget like many of us are, I've been researching inexpensive ways to reduce the normal operating temperature. My research here has lead to the conclusion that XIED's along with synthetic oil could help me accomplish this. Other than doing a complete stage 1 which is not in my budget at this time, do you all have any additional input on this topic??
Thanks

The XIED's should help and would be the cheapest. May also consider a programmer of some sort now to cool it down some and then you will have it as you add other things. Little more money now but cheaper in the long run if plan on adding more.
Nope. That's the cheapest way to do it. Some people are quite content with that setup. Just be sure to take off the Xied's if something happens and you need warranty work done. I would not take it to the dealer with them on. They may not honor their/your warranty otherwise.
If you are interested in saving more money, for less than $20 in parts you can make the resistor network up yourself. If you are interested I can look up the links to instruction.
Also many here have replaced their XiEDs and they are just laying around their garages. In fact my old ones may be laying around. They do richen the closed loop and cool things a bit. They do nothing for open loop.
Are you having a heat problem? HD has designed these bikes to work reliably from the factory. Are you trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist?
I switched to synthetic oil for extra protection.

Sorry to disagree but HD designed these bikes to meet current EPA regs.. Being as they are air cooled and being forced to run way to lean from the factory, they run way to hot! Fuel managment devices like power commanders and hi flow air filters and exhaust cure the over heating ...
