Default Rev Limiter

I shift by sound. In my crotch rocket days, I had a tach which showed me I pushed the other side of red line some times when I was really jammin' on it.

My WG hits the rev limiter at 60 mph in second. I know, from the sound, I could probably push that up to 65, maybe 70 if it weren't for the rev limiter, Is there a way to disable it or set it to kick in at some other point?

It's an 02 WG, Carb

You just have to change out your ignition module for another one that has an adjustable rev limiter in it or to the SE ingition module that will have a higher rev limit already built in to it. It will be a plug and play kind of thing and very easy to do.

Mines an 06 which is EFI and a PC III which raises the rev limiter from 5500 to 6200 but it still feels like there is a whole lot more there.I wonder what the real safe limit is? Just seat of the pants it feels like you could go up to 6500 real safely or maybe a little more.

I installed a tach with the face rotated to have 6000 rpm at straight up just so I can easily tell when I'm about to hit the rev limiter and I still hit it every once in a while.

Rollin' thru them gears in a hurry is a lot of fun, maybe I'll grow up some day.

Good Luck

Tom

My rev limiter is set at 6200 rpm, but my motor, which is stock other than stage 1, drops off rwhp at 5700 rpm and the rwtq drops off at 3900 rpm per my dyno tuning with the SE Pro Super Tuner.

I have a Speedway digital mini tach installed and never shift past 5500-5600 rpm cuz the bike starts to flatten out, which I can feel the power is dropping.

With a stock motor you could get in trouble over 5900-6000 rpm. At first I had mine set at 6200 but brought it down to just under 6000. Better to shift before you hit the limiter and before it flattens out. There's no real power gain and IMO you're taking a chance of floating a valve.
