I've got 1000 miles now and once in a while, the bike sounds like it doesn't want to start. Like the battery's been drained or almost dead....Wha'ts up with that? Any one know.....It's usually after a long ride.
Is it a carb ?? Mine sometimes is hard starting when parked in the hot sun and the gas is not turned off. Floods out real easy. I think the float needs to be adjusted..
Hi Koyote72, When you say hard to start is the battery flat or is it just turning over and over without firing.
If it is a battery problem, the battery could be overcharging...regulator problem or a dud battery from the box..does happen, or may not be getting the correct charge at all. Overcharging will destroy the battery and the slugish turning over on start is a giveaway.
If the bike is turning over normally and not starting could be a number of things. I'm an electrician not a spanner man but have had bikes all my life.
If fuel injected are you allowing time for the fuel pump to build up pressure. What fuel are you running. I have seen some guys pumping the throttle on an injected bike, this is not required as per a carby bike.
There are a lot of smart guys on this forum, you will get replies in the end.
It a little slow turning over....Its the 06 street bob so it is fuel injected....I just push a button, wait for the light to turn off and then start it....I hold the start button down till it kicks over....how do you prevent it from overcharging? that sounds like maybe what it is doing....
I've noticed that, on 100 degree days, after riding awhile and the bike is HOT, if I stop to pick up beer (or whatever), then get back on it within a few minutes, it does seem like it takes a little more effort than usual to start up.
I thought I was going to be stuck at the gas station....that;s how sluggish it was...it took me about three time to get it to start.....Maybe normal....I'll tell the dealer...

Mine does this too. After a short trip (like 5-10 minutes) I just have to make sure that I don't open the choke or twist the throttle when I start it again. If I do, I just wait about 30 seconds and try again. It has always started after a short wait.
Coyote72 have you had the injectors changed. I had trouble with my bike had to rev it up to take of from red lights. If you can see the injectors from the left front f the engine, if the last munbers are -06 you have the 8 degree injectors. Tell the service department your problem and they should be able to chech it out.
I took it in for the 1k service.....$299 by the way.... and mentioned it....I don't know if they looked at it or not because I forgot to ask them....They did add a rubber mount under the engine for my kick stand though and now it diesn't thud when I lift the stand up....So that's nice....It really runs nice now that the 1k is done....I'll see if it happens again then I'll call them....
