Well, I just got back from a little vacation and things started out bad....then got worse. After taking my bike 3 and a half hours away from home I realized I didn't have my key with me. My wife, which left later ) brought me my back-up key. No problems until I went to the nearest dealer to have another one made. Well, the guy that makes them just takes casj so I had to make a quick ride to the nearest ATM to get $20.00 for two keys. After leaving the ATM, I was entering the highway and had to stop for traffic. Thats when things got bad. While in the middle of a stop, I ran over a door panel out of a car. Why it was there , I have no idea, but trust me, bikes don't brake good while sliding on a 2' X 18" piece of plastic. As you can guess, my bike dropped and hit HARD. I now have a decent size dent and chipped paint on the side of my fuel tank.
I tell you all this to ask if Harley sales replacement tanks already painted. I was just looking at the price before I do anything. I figured if I bought a new one, I could practice my painting skills on the dented one.
Any help would be appreiated.
By the way, the only thing hurt on me was my feelings......
Thanks for the help, sorry for making it so long.
vacations are over-rated. they always cost way more then expected. I have never taken a spare key with me on rides but I guess it is a decent idea. I figure if i can lose 1 key i could probably lose 2 so why bother I would ask around about getting your tank repaired first, may cost alot less and look just as good if not better. Good luck either way......
I would check on your tank from www.zanottimotor.com They quoted me just at $600 for my complete set of tins for my 06 Superglide primed. I will say they will give you the best deal on a genuine H-D painted tank.
