Default Lowering shock problem

I put on some progressive lowering shocks on the street bob. Now the shocks a bottoming out on the belt guard.

I adjusted them up all the way and not I have about 3/8" of an inch clearance between the fender and the guard when on the bike.

What gives, is this just he way it is or is something else wrong?

Thats one of the ill effects of lowering it. You may need to consider heavier springs for your new shocks.

Sounds like you'll need to trim the fender to make it work.

Is the shock hitting the belt guard or the fender? If its the shocks can you put some washers in between the shock and the swingarm and frame to space them out a little so they don't hit the belt guard?

What bike? If it's a Wide glide you will have to trim the fender it's in the instructions for the shocks if they're 11" Progressive 412s. Easy solution remove the belt guard. On a Street Bob both the fender and the belt guard are cut to prevent this from happening you might be able to "shim" the belt guard and or fender over to prevent them from making contact. Also, if you have the regular Progressive 412s and you weigh over 210 you need the Heavy Duties, good luck.

yeah, it's the fender hitting the belt guard.

I may take the guard off, that's seems a better idea than trimming the fender.

Thanks all......

I had the same issue when I put the 1" lowering kit on my 09 St Bob.
I removed the belt guard and threw it in the river! No more issues since.
Here's a pic of the bike without the guard on:

BETTER IDEA!
How is the possibilty of the fender cutting into the drive belt a 'better' idea?

That's a good point. However, I dont' think theres enough travel to allow the fender to actually contact he belt. Even so, your right. It's probalby best to leave the guard in place.

I'm really not liking the sheet metal trim idea.
