Default New Dyna Rider...suggestions anyone?

I am crossing over..... My local dealer made me a deal I couldnt refuse. trading in my 2006 XL1200L with over 52,000 miles.(daily rider) for a 2009 FXD Superglide in basic black. A test drive 2 months ago left me dreaming about Superglides. I am alreading looking at ebay for passenger peg brackets, etc.... gotta keep the wife happy when she decides to ride with me.

Any comments on the stock seat? My longest regular ride will be 200-300 miles daily. I want to get a Mustang solo, immediately, but it is on my Christmas wish list, so I am being patient and hopeful. that a jolly little elf will be nice to me.

I am picking it up this Tuesday, work permitting.

Hi karl
I use my Dyna as a daily, it is a bit older than yours.
I ride 20K a year and the stock seat on mine is good but I didn't like the look (it worked ok for the old girl but just on short trips, under 1 hour) she is quite small so that helped. I also have hard rear suspension which doesn't help

I got a used mustang seat with a pillion pad it worked well for both of us for longer trips
Welcome to the Dyna family
Cheers
Jason

Default FXD seat

I had a 1200c sportster and traded for a new stock 2009 last January. The stock 2 up seat on the sportster didn't work so I bought a sundowner. That was a good seat but I didn't like the looks of it. When I got the FXD I liked the solo seat it came with but expected trouble on long rides. I got lucky because I think I could do 500 miles a day on it if I wanted to. I can't give you advise on a two up but I suggest you hold onto your solo seat.....

Welcome to the dark side You will love it. Stock seats have always been ok to me but there are alternatives out there. Not just in comfort and cushyness but in riding position as well. Take all of what you need in to consideration when purchasing a seat.

Wellcome to the naked, lean and mean side!
Mastang seats are great. You should consider the one with the driver's backrest...Works GREAT for hundreds of miles AND while in town you can take of the backrest and you still got a beautifull mean solo seat!
My advice is FIRST work on your seat and AFTER on every other aspect.
Because if you change for example your bars...your footpegs etc according to your stock seat,WHEN you change it YOUR WHOLE position CHANGES!
And have in mind that Dynas weigh less.have thinner rear wheel and small rake. SO THEY ARE FASTER

Advice? My old Pop used to say that advice is usually worth what you pay for it. I have changed many seats in my riding past. Made many mistakes. I have to make myself ride enough to know if I like or dislike the seat, then I make my next mistake. I was once at Myrtle Beach during bike week and Mustang had a tent set up. They would put their seat on your bike and let you ride it to see if you like it. That's the way to go if at all possible. Enjoy your new Dyna. I really like mine.

I'm doing the same, just sold my 06 1200-C and I'm in the process of buying a 2010 FXDC. I had the Mustang with drivers backrest on my Sporty and loved it. I will probably do the same with my new Dyna...Good luck.

I have the Corbin solo with backrest, while my brother has Mustang solo with backrest. Mine's leather, his is vinyl. His backrest folds over and comes off easily, mine is bolted. Both are very comfortable on long rides. I also have HD Touring seat for when I have a passenger.

Default Have a plan

Congratulations. I went from a 05 1200XLC to an 08 Streetbob. Sundowner seat. While ugly it is comfortable. I use my Harley backpack put over the seat where the pax would sit as a back rest.

Try to decide on all the mods you want to make and then make sure that they support each other. If you want a sissy bar and luggauge rack, and detachable saddle bags buy those type of sissy bar mounts instead of the rigid ones. A lot of this stuff adds weight and while I did not feel the need to do extensive engine or muffler mods, good spark plug wires, a better air cleaner, and AMSOIL produced about 8 HP gains at minimal expense. A little decel pop but not enough that I feel any fuel computer is needed. The rear rider pegs seen to pick up vibrations and even with some thick rubber rider pegs the wife still complains. The peg mounts go directly on the frame, might be worth looking into if someone makes mounts that would isolate the vibrations a little better. Front head light sucks at night. I added a brighter bulb and a visor. Much better, still not great and I if I were to ride much at night, would add driving lights on my engine guards.

If were taking long highway trips and did not already have solid spoke wheels instead of laced, I would have them and tubeless tires. That way a tire plug kit and small air pump and your are back on the road again. Had a flat on the rear once with tubes. What a pain that the was. Truck to take bike to dealer, $150 and three hours later back on the road.

They are great bikes, so far I have had no maintenance issues. I don't let the dealer touch her for routine maintenance. Saves $$$ and you know what was done.

Enjoy.
