Bought the outer fairing on Ebay a while back, it was advertised as a police style fairing.... but I have seen these on early Honda CB 550's. I plan to run spot lamps in the outer holes. Making the inner from scratch. started by making a center spport frame of wood and mdf. then glued green floral foam to that.. started sculpting my shape.. once i was close i covered it in sheet rock mud sanded that to shape... then stretched fleece over that and applied resin. then glassed over that.. took it off the buck and glassed the inside.. more to come.

Going to fab up some clamps like the HD quick detach style and once the lower part of the inner fairing is done it will have some stainless mounts on it.
MAN... GREAT WORK... GREAT WORK!!!! that looks fantastic!!!! i have to do the same thing on mine... I wonder if people realize what it takes to make this... if it will help you here is how i built my cafe seat... same way i make all my sub enclosures for stereos... granted it does not need to be near as strong as the seat... but it may help http://dotheton.com/index.php?topic=11514.0
loving this man! i am going to start mine in Feb, once i get a few other projects wrapped up... great work bud! great work...
One question that i do have... how did you get your template for the inner fairing? you just shave it? my dad has an inner fairing i may use as a template if he will let me... I am not going to do a stereo in mine, i am goign to do a I pod docking station, and 2 500 watt amps. the dockng station will have a plug in for any reg jack plug for any ipods... as well as a plug in for navigation power... just trying to feed off others ideas before i start!
Thanks Joe!... I just set the outer fairing on the bike with some towels to pad it and some bungees to hold it close to where I would mount it.. ( ...I said mount it) took some measurements of clearances top tree fork width etc. and took into consideration that I am keeping the apes what size speaker i would use and went to work from there. Also scored a 4 x 4 sheet of tinted lexan and cut myself a 5" windscreen.... came out sweet.
after this is done I'm gonna make some hard bags...
I started a tail section like yours for my Yamaha years ago and it's still sitting unfinished.
man great work, that is going to look so trick! i love using stock take offs from old **** and making it work on new stuff! looks so sick! keep us posted bud
