Default 6" Risers & Low Rider Bars

I originally posted this a couple of months ago and have finally taken some pictures that were worth posting. The pictures show the new H-D 6" pullback risers with a set of Low Rider bars. I switched both out because the buckhorns were killing my right wrist and I wanted a more upright riding position. I've included a picture of me on the bike so that folks can see what my riding position is with the new set up. The installation was simple and straight forward (this includes a new set of polyurethane bushings). I didn't have to swap out any cables. The biggest problem I had was making sure that the risers and bars were straight when I tightened them up. It took a couple of times to get this right.

The bottom line is that I'm really happy with the way they turned out. The ride is significantly more comfortable (the Mustang seat helped too).

Thanks for the information. I've been looking at changing my buckhorns out also, just looking for the right combination. Looks like you found it for me!

I never was a big fan of the buckhorn bars. I didn't like the hand position. Nice job, it looks good.

Your bars look very good! How does it change the handling of the bike and/or the riding position? Is it more comfy?

Voony, thanks for the compliment. It changes the handling just a little. I'm 6' and with the buckhorns my grip was a little forward and down. That made the handling a little more responsive or it seemed like it at first. In fairness, my last bike was a 1200C with a set of dirt track bars so moving from the Sportster riding position and handling characteristics to those of the FXDC required a little getting used to. Because the Low Rider bars are a little narrower than the buckhorns, you have to put just a little more pressure on the grip when you're turning (more noticeable in low-speed turns). I've had the new set up on for several months now and I've adujsted fairly easily. As for the riding position, it's infinitely more comfortable. Some of that has to do with the Mustang seat, but not all of it. I've attached a picture of me on the bike with the old set up (sorry it's not of better quality). As you look at it you can see that my hands are a little lower, maybe 2" or so and while it's a little hard to see, I'm leaning forward just a bit more. Around town, it's not a big thing, but on longer rides, it makes a huge difference. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks Royce for your input. I do have more questions actually In 6 months I will get my first Harley and the last and only bike I had before was a 125cc dirt bike. I don't know if I should get a sportster or a dyna. I mean I love the look of both the Nightster and the Street Bob, I just put my butt on both at the dearlership but because I don't have my license yet they wouldn't let me try them. So my question is: what did you get from riding a Sportster before the Dyna? What made you change from one to another?

Thanks in advance for your thoughtful input!

Voony.
