Just installed SE SP slip ons on my '08/09 FXD. I like the sound quality (it could have more volume) and I like the slighty performance boost. Other than that, my bike is stock. Now, it has a little popping on decel (I suspect it was there before, only I couldn't hear because of the very closed sounding stock exhaust). It's very mild. Is it normal?
I ask 'cause I had a 883R with Cycle Shacks before, very loud sounding, and never had one single pop whatsoever!
Is it because of the TC96 engine? Thanks!
that is what will happen if you do not have the bike tuned or a tuner in the bike, no it is not normal and usually is a sign that the bike is not running right
Normal in the sense that just about everyone that installs slip ons without a tuner will notice decel pops. You notice them now because the open exhaust allows air to rush up the pipe and light off unburned fuel. It will not hurt anything, annoys most riders but some riders get a bang outa it.

There are plenty of reports that this (PC) won't always work, sometimes it makes it worse and sometimes you get lucky. You need something like a TTS to have all the tools you need to eliminate pop by tweaking timing and AF for certain TPS and MAP values specific for the bike.

IMO, if it's popping it's not tuned right, I don't care what the dealers say. My decel pop was driving me crazy. To make a really long story short, I tried the FuelPak and XIEDs, (making sure there were no intake or exhaust leaks) and nothing helped until I installed the TMax. Finally got it tuned outand getting better mileage as well.
Well, I guess pops can sometimes be tuned out but, I don't know if it's got anything to do with it, on a finely tuned formula one engine the exhaust pops a lot:
After i installed my Rush slip-ons i noticed decel pop big time. I went with the PCV and SE AC and that helped alot but didnt cure it 100%. She is running alot better now, and cooler, but i did notice i have to crack the throttle abit more from a stop standing position. Its just a canned tune but better than before. Maybe one day ill get it dyno tuned.
