To me, a motorcycle should have shocks, exposed ones. There really isn't anything appealing to me about the softails as they don't really seemed to be geared towards riding instead they just try to look cool. Another problem I have with softails is that they seem to be very cramped for the rider and at 6'7'' this is a big issue for me. My Dyna was very easy to open up and make it roomy for my long legs, every softail I sat on made me feel like a gorilla on a mini bike.

I haven't priced the new bikes, but when it comes to the Dyna's being "less expensive" than the Softail's I think it depends on which specific model you are looking at.

Unless things have changed, the Wide Glide's MSRP has been right up there with the Softail's.

For example, the below information is from a little booklet I got when I purchased my 2003 Wide Glide, and it gives complete information and specifications dealing with all of the 100th Anniversity Models;

Dyna FXDWG Wide Glide ~ Vivid Black ~ MSRP $16,395

Softail FXST/FXSTI Softail Standard ~ Vivid Black ~ MSRP $13,720

Softail FLSTFI Fat Boy ~ Vivid Black ~ MSRP $16,280

Touring FLHRI Road King ~ Vivid Black ~ MSRP $16,475

Kind of surprising to me as I assumed that my 100th Anniversity FatBoy would have had a somewhat higher MSRP than my 100th Anniversity WideGlide... But I also thought that the Road King would have had a higher MSRP...

For 2010:

Superglide - 11,999
Superglide Custom - 12,999
Street Bob - 12,999
Fat Bob - 14,999
Wide Glide - 14,499

Softail Custom - 16,999
Fat Boy - 15,999
Softail Deluxe - 16,799
Heritage Classic - 16,999
Rocker C - 19,499
Cross Bones - 16,999
Fat Boy Lo - 16,299

Most expensive Dyan is still 1K less than the cheapest Softail. Course that is 2010.

Comparing softails and dynas, I believe the dyna's are more of a riders bike. I prefer the 'A' motor over the 'B'. Also get a better bang for the buck.

I do like the softails however and when I travel I will change up from the dyna and rent them.

Just my opinion, but the new 2010 Wide Glide is a Wide Glide in name only when compared to the 2008 and earlier models.

The 2010 Wide Glide is a nice bike, but still.......

In 2008 the MSRP for the 105th Anniversity Wide Glide was $17,620, and as you mentioned the new 2010 model is priced $3,000 less.

That's quite a drop in price between the 'old' and 'new' model...

I had an Ultra and found that it was OK for what it was, but the power to weight ratio just was way too low. I now have a BMW for those really long rides. It weighs the same but will do 125 MPH with room to spare and it gets there real fast. When I was looking for another Harley my first choice was a soft tail heritage. But after looking at them I decided I didn't want another bagger or bagger wannabe. I wanted something simple for those beach rides up and down Pacific Coast Highway. The Dyna was a perfect fit in every way. I couldn’t be happier with my decision.

The price of the the Rocker is crazy. 19 big ones. The Wide Glide is the Wide Glide the same thing is going to happen to the Low Rider when it comes back we say the old one is the real one we have to move on.

The softail has counterweights in the motor, the dyna does not so it will rev faster. The dyna motor is soft mounted where the softail is hard mounted, and without chassis stabilizers the dyna can be a bit squirrelly. The dynas has better ground clearance, I think.

The touring bikes are another category altogether..
Can you give me a litte more on "chassis stablizers" on the softail frame. I had noticed that my 04 super glide gets a little unstable at high speeds but my brother said his softail custom feels planted. This might be why but ive never heard anything about it. Thanks for any help!

Dyna is short for DYNAMITE or DYNAMIC.
