vibrations
hello boys n girls ... I have a 2004 FXDLI .. it's going in for the 1000 mile service check this coming Monday. Questions I have are just two ... shifting is really hard .. lots of banging.. at times it slips in nicely, other times I feel like i'm going to break something. The second question is .. I'm getting more familiar with the bike every day now .. and I have noticed that almost excatly at 2500 RPM's I get a really bad vibration. This is really bad because when in 5th gear and on the highway doing around 60 MPH I'm at about 2500 RPM's. It doesn't matter what gear I'm in .. @ 2500 there's the vibration. Really noticed it today on the way home from work! The good news it's going to service this Monday! I was looking for any suggestions on what might be happening with the shifting and the vibrations!

Clutch adjustment will most likely fix the shifting issue. Cable stretch is the culprit.
2500 RPM's should be in the sweet zone where vibration should be slight. Might need a realignment of the engine rubber mounts which is a pretty easy procedure or you might have a failed rubber motor mount.

It sounds like it could be one of several different things or even a combination of several. After the first 1000 miles the clutch and drive belt quite often need to be adjusted. The HDs do have some vibration and that sometimes loosens some of the fasteners (engine mounts, brackets, etc.) Just tell the dealers service manager when you take it in for the 1000 mi service. If it still exhibits problems when you get it back, jump in their case and make them fix it. As long as it is under warranty take advantage of it. They will most likely do the service and it will come out running just like it did when you picked it up.
Ok I was just ready to post this when I saw fl_799s post I certainly agree with him

Sometimes it will bang. It is a constant mesh transmission. That means that all the gears are in contact and they transfer power through a dog ring to the correct gear set.
