I just scheduled my 2500 mile service on my 06 fatboy. The dealer at Brother's Harley in Connecticut is charging about $320.00. However, if you bought if from them, they knock $100 off, so it's around $220 . . . which, I believe is still too high . . . Harley doesn't even call for a 2500 mile service, but idiot me scheduled it anyways . . . not much other than an oil change, belt tightening, and minor adjustments happen . You can check previous posts . . . I was contemplating waiting until I hit 5,000. Hope this helps

Scott

Don't know what they're charging but these service intervals are BS. They are mostly just visual inspections and the occasional fluid change. All this can be done by anyone with a modicum of tech skills. If you can turn a wrench you can do these intervals yourself and save a boatlad of money.

I am simply amazed by all the riders who pay $300 for what is basically an oil change, tighten a couple bolts, and a look see.

I am afraid to admit this, but I did not have the 2500k sevice done. The reason, I was on vacation. Also I picked up a screw on the interstate near Jacksonville, Fl. That meant a new back tire at 1500 miles. I do not plan on servicing the bike until I hit the 5k mark. There is a indy shop near work that I let do the 1k sevice for $175.00 o.t.d. and he is harley certified. The funny thing is that he also work on bike for the guys that work at the local stealer.

I think I am going to have the inspection done at the Harley stealer then go to an independent for the 2500 mile service. I'm in a good position I'm only at 2200 miles but I have been having issues with the bike getting too hot. I'm pretty sure I neglected, or just plain forgot, to tell them to put in synthetic oil at the 1000 mile service. Synthetic usually doesn't burn as hot. This weather has been killing me.
My bike is coughing and choking on hot days after riding for a while. Sometimes will even stall out. Bike runs wonderful when on the highway or just when it is moving. Come to a light shift into neutral and she sounds like a sick puppy but only after she is fully warmed up and hot. I'm hoping the synthetic oil is the cure. Its a little embarrassing to keep stalling out at a light. I know about all the air cooled business but come on.

Thanks again

I thought the springers were the only ones that needed the scheduled 2500 mile service. On my fxst I went from the 1000 mi. service to the 5000 mile service.

After 1k miles you only need a service every 5k. I would recommend dealer service especially at 10k because they will re-torque your engine sprocket. You don't want that one to come loose.

I don't see any 2500 mile required service listed in my 2006 Road King manual or the service manual. There is the 1000 mile service and then 5000 miles. Unless your is different someone is trying to make an extra few (lot) bucks.
