i'm sending an s.o.s. out to the whole harley universe. here's the deal i'm 23 and just bought my first bike after alot of drooling and shopping. it's a 2005 Super Glide FXD with a carb and 9000 miles. i've had it about a week and everything has been fine till today. today i got off work and went to crank her up and she wouldn't turn over all i got was the electrical systems to work and a loud clicking when i hit the starter. it was the first really cold day since i got it but i dont know if that had anything to do with it. I'm freaking out and not sure what i should be looking at to fix it. ANY info would be most appreciated.
Have your battery checked, you will probably find it needs replaced. If it was weak to begin with the drop in temp may have finished it since it takes more to crank a cold engine.
IF you are new to the bike world, (I assume this because everyone who has ridin for a while has heard this clicking sound you speak of) You may not know that bike batteries only last a few years under the best of conditions....Dont start trippin and thinking your new bike is already breaking down...like everyone said it's most likely a bad battery.
heard that sound once after I left my lights on while I went in for food.
Probably your battery is weak or dead. Charge it fully with a battery tender or other, then ride it. If you are doing only short trips, 10 miles or so, likely not recharging after sitting. If it still goes dead after riding some distance, it is either a bad ground or a battery that's done.
