Default Is it common......
to have even HD riders confuse a FXD for a sportster? I'm not new to riding, but new to HD, and I'm amazed at the number of people who come up and say 'nice sporty'. I don't care, but it's kind of weird.

Saw another dyna rider with a sticker on his helmet that said 'Sit back and open wide, this ain't no sporty, it's a superglide'. Is this an old HD joke?

I suppose some can just glance at the front end and make an uneducated guess then come up with that conclusion. Especialy the pre '06 models with the thinner forks and the eyebrow mounted head light.

I have a buddy with a '05 fxdc and he gets that all the time.

I don't see how they could unless they aren't a Harley rider and maybe heard someone say "Sporty" and assume that's the only model out there. I can tell a major difference between the two.

Maybe it looks like a Sportster because I'm a good sized fella...I 'fill out' a 800 lb Valkyrie Interstate pretty well.

my neighbor thought mine was a Sporstser. I think to the non-Harley enthusiast they just don't know. They probably just know the terms Sporster, FatBoy, RaodKing and not much beyond that.

I see people say "Nice Harley" to guys riding Hondas. Most peolple just don't know or care it seems.
