Default Fat Bob vs Street Bob

Hey guys,

Without a doubt I'm buying a New bike in the spring! I first narrowed it down to the Dyna family and was thinking about going with the SuperGlide Custom. I've since realized that these two models were more what I wanted and I'm having a real bitch of a time deciding which one two go with???

I really like the styling of both, the FXDF has a thicker more aggressive look to it while the FXDB has a much more chopped up look. I have been swayed the way of Dyna's simply because I really like riding aggressively and will be riding fairly hard no matter what I end up with! I'm 6'3 and around 260 Ilbs so I'm not sure if either really has a benefit for my size as I'll go with forward controls on either.

Any input from riders of both models and similar size would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks G

In April of 2008 I had the same choice before me. I’ve put 25,700 miles behind me now with out a single regret!
The Fat Bob is definately a rider's bike.

There ain't no difference in engine or frame, so it's all up to your preference in riding style, (though I do prefer the aggressive stance of the FB). Since you're a member of this forum I think it's safe to say that you'll be bit by the 'mod' bug, just like the rest of us. Which ever you choose, you can't go wrong, just try to look at it as a starting point. There's a whole lotta ways to make it your own!

Good luck!

At this point, it's all about the styling. Some people don't like the dual headlights and the new rear fender on the Fat Bob. Those people almost universally go with the Street Bob.

Me, I like the front end of the Fat Bob over the Street Bob, I can always change the rear fender.

As the owner of a Fat Bob, I have to say I love this bike. However, I also love the SB. I didn't ride a SB before I bought the FB, so I can't really give you any real good advice. Just get which ever one you find the most appealing or flip a coin. Really, you can't go wrong.

Riding aggressively at your size.....if you use the bike on tight, twisty roads with elevation changes thrown in as well.... you are gonna tax the energy capability of the single front brake on the FXDB. The 2 brakes up front on the FXDF are gonna provide you with MUCH more braking capability and fade resistance. If you really want to ride the beast to or near its potential, you are gonna want to go with mid controls and forward hiway pegs to actually be in a position to aggressively control the big cruiser (ie, get off the seat well to the inside of corners to delay lean angles)
Positively, for riding the two beasts in a spirited fashion, there is more than just style to ponder.....

Centerline really knows what he is talking about.

If you really want to be aggressive, mid-controls on either, the FXDF with the dual front brakes, its whole stance, will be a shade better.

For me it was not even close when it came to decisions: the looks of the Fat Bob really moved me, the Street Bob did nothing for me. And two years plus on, I'm in love with my bike. Still. Perhaps more.

+1 on the Fat Bob if you intend to ride aggressively. If you like laid back relaxed cruising then the Street Bob is probably better for you. They are both good bikes.

I saw a chopper show once where they mention two types of Harley riders. The aggressive riders, you see them with drag bars, fat front tires and mids. The relaxed laid back types, you see them with apes and forwards, skinny front tires.

Pick the type of rider you are and buy the bike that fits, if not sure, buy one each :-)

But... if you are a laid back rider, save some cash and get yourself a super glide and put more mods on it.

Like "Phrogram" said It comes down to looks etc, me personally I dont like the Dual front lights myself, I thought it looked too much of a dirt bike maybe? I did however liked that they did come with forward controls already being 6'4" and the wider front tire..Reason I liked the front tire is because I rode a Victory Hammer b 4 that with the 250 tire and it handled great, But I've always liked the Street Bob though every since it came out and especially the color I got aswell
