Im looking for some baffles for my bike. Long story short, I was rear ended a few months back and layed the bike down on the right side. Insurance bought me new everything that was damaged. I worked with the dealership and instead of stock everything, I ended up with V&H Short Shots staggered, SE Stage 1 A/C and a PC V. For those wondering, I did end up with noticeable performance gains with the Short shots. (As part of the whole stage 1 vs stock) Not a hot rod, but I did notice more power.
Anyways, I have been reading this site ALOT lately and there is a overwhelming consensus that ShortShots suck for power and I am wondering on what I may be missing out on if I were to get some different pipes. Well, new pipes are not in the budget, and I like the look and sound of the Short Shots, but I hear that I can get some more power with some baffles. I'm looking at either the BCT baffles for about $80 or V&H quiet baffles for about $65. Can anyone shed some light on this. Im sure I will hear BCT baffles are the ticket, but has anyone seen good results with the V&H? The price between them is no issue, I just want to see what I'm missing out on as far as power goes and if anyone has experience with both. Also, they both can be installed with the pipes on the bike right?
I installed the BCT and got great sound and probably loss a little performance. I think most will tell you the quiet baffles will improve your low end torque a little, while sounding a little deeper and quieter than the regular V & H baffles.
I don't think you are going to wind up with Dyno sheets or anything comparing the two. But the BCTs are my preference, they are LOUD but perform well. The V&H quiet baffles perform well too, just much quieter. The quality of the sound coming out of the BCTs is for better then the QQ baffles.
As far as instillation, yes, they can be installed with the pipes on the bike. I however took them off just to clean some things up, and kinda for the hell of it.
i have the longshots on my 90 fxstc and there perfect, no baffles. i did put some baffles in them once and it made it quite as a church mouse. i can imagine the short shorts without baffles are really loud. i would think that some one makes, or should, a internal adjustable baffle. ive always heard that with the right amount of back pressure youll make more horse power. but then how much horse power is going to depend on your motor, cam and compression ratio.
