I'm in a high traffic area and shifting gears back and forth in stop and go traffic so much I don't know where I am most of the time in the gear range. Then sometimes I need to get out of the way quick...gas it and the engine bogs down. Then I'm downshifting for a lower gear and there's that car headed straight toward me with the driver on the cell phone in a state where it is illegal and should be. You know, they never catch them until the accident is over and your lawyer has to get a court order to try to prove they were on the cell phone at the time of the accident.
Yeah, it would be nice to be able to monitor the gear you're in at all times....
if you're worried about engine bog and traffic and cars coming at you and wind speed and the lights and what color panties the blond on your right is wearing and whether or not you left the stove on...do you really want to be looking down at your dash to find out what gear you're in, too? or do you want to feel and hear the bike, react, and downshift (which takes 1 second btw) and get out of the way of the rogue cage? think about it.
You can tell what gear you are in by looking at you speedo? I cant.
Ear plugs and stock pipes cant hear the engine
Rubber mounted engine and road vibrations cant feel the engine.
I have an FXD and added a tach. Now I dont care what gear Im in. I just keep it between 2,500 and 3,200 when Im cruising and dont let it get under 2,000 when Im down-shifting. The rpms are always where I want them.
Plus, having both the speedo and tach on the handle bars (yes it probably looks like a Sportster), I dont have to move my eyes very far from the road to check the gauges. Its a great help when Im entering a turn.
Just like to go by how bike feels, if it bogging shift down, if its revving, shift up although i do find myself looking for 7th sometimes, then I realize I'm going fast enough already.
Hi Mud...You really have that on your bike? It is impressive!! Yup, guages do it for me. Anyone out there ever fly an airplane?
Knowing where your at is where its at in my book.
A cop friend once told me that in just about every arrest for DUI the driver insists that although he's had a drink he's not over the legal limit of .08. Thing is when he gets a breathalizer guage stuck in his mouth it becomes a whole different story...
If you have any info on that rig, send it along to me Mud.
