Hey!
Got a problem that just crept up on me. I've been gettin a kind of a humming noise coming from the primary for the past couple of weeks so yesterday I got out the old book and changed the fluid. Only problem is, it says it's supposed to have 32 oz. and when I drained it. Maybe only 15oz came out. Well, I drained it and it was pretty dark brown and had some shavings in it. So I thought I had my problem solved, not enough fluid so it was makin noise. But, when I filled it back up and took it for 10 min ride around the block, 1.5 miles it was still makin a little noise. So I figured I'd drain it again after it was warmed up and flush it all out. Opps. There's the problem, I drained it again, and after only 1.5 miles on the brand new fluid it came out as dark as chocolate milk and was FULL of shavings. Now, I've not had any power problems, any shifting problems and only a slight annoyance in finding neutral. I know that shavings on a new bike are common but, is this common? I've been reading the threads you guys got on the '06 Primary bearing problem. You guys (and gals, I'm not being sexist. I just call everybody a guy) think that the bearing is going out on my 08 as well. That's the way I was leanin. Thanks for the help and advice as always.

Reason: Goofed up on a sentence. Fixed it.
If the bike is still under warranty, its time to take it in. I wont even begin to guess what might be wrong without pulling the cover, but it aint gonna be cheap.
Do you have any oil leaking from the backside of the inner primary?
Nope. Clean as a whistle. Hasn't leaked an ounce since I bought it. The engine also runs strong, the oil from there was all clean as well and the tranny looks like brand new fluid. So it's all contained in the primary. And nope, it's outta warranty. That's alright, I like turnin wrenches. I got the book and the internet, should be able to replace just about anything.
If it is the IPB the easiest way to tell is start the bike up in neutral, pull the clutch in and drop it into first gear. That will stop the input shaft going into the tranny from turning. If the noise stops, it could be the bearing. The IPB runs on the input shaft to the tranny.
