visiting Yellowstone when a noise started in the clutch area. by the time I got to S. dakota it was really talking to me. Rapid City was busy and couldn't look at the bike so I continued on to Souix Falls H.D. where they tore it down and found a bad primary shaft bearing. Super dearlership! They had me on the road in 3 hours. The service manager said he is seeing quite a few on the 08s. Anyone had this problem? Mine started making noise at 35,000 mi.

2006 Dynas had a lot of problems with the inner primary bearing because HD did not use locating dowels to align the innner primary to the trans. Mine is bad. This is the first I've heard about other years having a problem.
Interesting,
I had a 09 Ultra I sold w/6000 miles that would chatter like crazy when I let out the clutch under load at lower rpms. (It sounds like the clutch basket rattling or a broken motor mount). I had the mechanic and service manager come outside with me and took the bike over to a incline at the dealership. The both heard the chatter then fessed up the've had the same issue with a few other 08-09 bikes with the new six speed, but HD had not given them a explanation for the noise at the time. The told me to keep riding until something breaks. I was not happy with the blow torch heat or chatter noise so I sold the Ultra. Curious to know if these are the same symptoms you where having?
I have a 08 Ultra also and been hearing this noise too. It's at the dealer, they say the noise is not present if the bike is operated normaly. Trouble is they can't or won't take the time to reproduce the noise. I thought it was a motor mount but was wondering if there was a clutch problem. It can be quite loud at times. Sounds like some part of the motor is hitting the frame.
My 07 Ultra had the same problem. I had just completed a 2,600 mi.trip, parked the bike at home and when I fired up the next day I heard the chattering. It would start and stop, I really heard the difference when shifting. Long and short,I took it to my mechanic and when he took the primary cover off a five inch piece of metal came poking out! It was the "Compensator Sprocket" housing/assembly, after some research he said alot of this was occuring on different models and years according to other mechanics but that H/D won't fess up to it. Have the systems nut torqued to 205 to 210, apparently it is set at 170 at the factory. If you're not sure about it go to your mechanic and have them inspect it anyway. Total cost for repair was $660.00. Just glad that metal didn't get in my gears at 75 mph. Good luck to all.
