Excellent write-up and damn good looking shock. I would surprised if you found it to be better than the custom Ohlins that Howard makes but I will be listening.

Do you have any experience or input about the "Intiminator" Ricor advertises?

I gotta feeling he's pretty pleased with the intiminators he tossed in there a little while back, other wise he probably wouldn't be as receptive to try another product from ricor on the back end of his scoot.
At least I hope so, since I just bought, and had my intiminators delivered today, and will be dropping in myself after I get completed some front end work.

Nice post mud, shocks aren't all that tough to mess with but I love your attention to detail with the pics you put in your write ups, I have archived a couple of em for past, present, and future use.

well I for one am really liking the style of the final shock. Thank god they are going to have black springs. Those blue ones put me off a little. Be interesting to hear about the final ride quality of these over the Ohlins. Also good to hear they will be offering many different lengths across the board.

Bob, I'll be surprised if they perform *better* than the Ohlins as well.

Raining and cold all day here,
so I only got to ride up to the Night Cafe this evening.
Maybe tomorrow I can wring em out.

As to the Intiminators.....................................

You are correct red.
I am still more than satisfied with the front suspension inertia valving component from Ricor.

Thanks for the compliment on the write ups.
I enjoy doing them.

I did a step by step install on the Intiminators, click here,
then there are three links in posting # 1....................

kinda amusing to me that you reiterate over and over again
your dislike of the blue research springs.

Imyownself really like the color more and more every day.

And, especially at night,
they look a *black with psychedelic blue tinge*.
(keep in mind now, I also like my Caution Tape Yellow Ohlins springs. a lot.)

Remembering back to my teenage daze,
come out of the bar, all lit up,
look around for the machine,
and there's a dozen Black SportSters parked.

Loved the 60s.

the intiminators are black. have you checked them out??

15 years old.. my 64 XLCH........ didn't stay Black....
didn't know what a starter button was til the 70s.
battery... nope.
turn signals.. nope.
keyed ignition.. nope.
twenty bux for a tank of fuel.. nope.
tanked up with 100 octane. paid with a dollar bill. and got change back................

I kind of like the black with blue springs.

I couldn't help but notice how skinny the forks were on your sporty. Wow, those things remind me of Calista Flockhart.

yeah I have said it a few times(3)... Of course not everyone will read each thread so I tend to repeat myself...
Anyways, To me there is just something about a beautiful black shock....I ride the Ohlins, figured I'd be ok with the style, been 10 months or so, I have just pulled them apart and epoxied em black(hope it holds up good). I have been stuck all my life being highly visual. The blue springs don't look all that bad, they just won't work for me for too long. I have a feeling that The majority of Harley riders out there might be put off buying shocks with blue springs too. After all most people are visual too. Hell, Ohlin could probably sell twice as many shocks if they gave the riders a little better styling color wise to go along with the sublime ride and handling. Progressive has proven, make a good looking shock, they'll sell the hell out of em even if they are complete garbage(yeah heavy marketing too).

Yeah hair.

Those looong skinnny forklegs were horrible, and did not stay on for long.

If I remember correctly, I removed them with a broken arm.....

The seat on that machine would probably sell on eBay today
for more than what that machine cost new in 1964.
In 64, HD produced less than 3000 Sporties,
at right around 1300 bux off the showroom floor.

I agree.

Remember though,
any of the shock (brands) can powder coat the springs any color in the rainbow.

Here's my old 68 Sporty. It had been in an accident and the previous owner took it apart and put it all in baskets. The frame was trashed so I built it from the ground up out of the baskets and other parts I found or traded for. It had an SU Carb that didn't work very well for me. I never did like the right foot shift either but it was a good first build I thought. Went to a 65 Pan after this one.

Default Responding to concerns about satisfaction guarantee timing

Ricor refund guarantee increased to 90 days for our 3rd Gen IAS Rear Shocks
With the winter weather being so severe in much of the United States and elsewhere, Ricor is extending our money back guarantee along with a re-valve and spring change to 90 days. We realize that a lot of our current customers, along with new ones, will not be able to install, test and appreciate the difference a 3rd generation IAS equipped Ricor shock will provide through the winter months. We are confident enough in our product to extend this guarantee, and allow those who cannot ride much now, to take the time to evaluate our new custom built IAS equipped shocks. Wring them out when an opportunity arise and conditions permit and be ready for Spring. This offer of course includes those lucky enough to ride in relative comfort year round.
This guarantee extension along with product availability may end at any time as we continue to develop shocks for additional bikes and other product lines and includes those who have purchased our put deposits down this month on their new shocks.
RICOR RACING SHOCKS
We guarantee you will be satisfied!!!!
